After being the victim of an attack that leaves him in pain and with mobility issues, Raine goes to the ranch owned by his friends Geoff and Eli to complete his recovery. While Raine is there, Eli’s brother Jonah shows up to spend some time during his Rumspringa. Despite Raine’s first impression of Jonah, he can’t help finding himself drawn to him. But can Raine, an out gay man from the city, truly win over Jonah, a sheltered young man from an Amish community who is still learning about the outside world? And even if he can, is it worth it when Jonah is likely to just go back to his community at the end of the year and Raine is headed back to Chicago?

While I felt like the last two installments in this series had some rather stark similarities, this one seems a bit fresher. Granted, there is the theme returning from the first book as one of the main characters is coming from an Amish community and is faced with learning about the outside world and himself, as well as decisions about where he wants to end up in the end. But the characters here are very different, as are their circumstances. I also feel like this installment included a bit more bedroom scenes that previous books – the plot to sex ratio is heavier to the latter when compared to the early parts of the series.

Overall, Andrew Grey continues to add to the world he’s created, slowly introducing more wonderful characters into the mix.

Stranded in a winter storm, Stone finds himself taken in by Eli and Geoff and given a place to stay on their ranch. He’s appreciative of their help but is even more pleasantly surprised when they offer him a job and invite him to stay on. Preston, unable to walk and recovering from a car accident, winds up at the farm for therapeutic riding lessons. Although Stone and Preston don’t get on well at first, they eventually see past their initial interactions and acknowledge their mutual attraction. But with Stone’s history and Preston’s father insisting he can’t be gay, can they make it work?

I always enjoy going back to visit Geoff and Eli and company. There’s just something I find comforting about their world and end up engrossed in this series of books. Both Stone and Preston go through quite a bit in this installment and their development as characters is moving. The only thing that didn’t really work for me was that this seemed to be very close to the formula of the previous book, so it didn’t seem very unique.

Another charming installment in the Love Means… series. Joey has been living and working with Geoff and Eli at the farm since a motorcycle accident that left him scarred and a bit shaken. When Geoff and Eli agree to host a musician from the National Youth Symphony, Joey finds something more in Robbie, the young violinist that comes to stay with them. Robbie is blind and, as far as Joey can surmise, certainly not gay. But as they spend time together, they learn more about each other and themselves, pushing the boundaries of their own worlds. Robbie is only at the farm for a short time – can it last for them after he leaves?

Andrew Grey is wonderful, as always. No real disappointment at all for me from this one. I did go with three stars, but that’s mostly because I feel like the ending was a bit rushed compared to the rest of the book and parts of it were just a bit jarring as a result. It’s definitely an enjoyable read, though, and I recommend it.

I absolutely loved this prequel to the Farm (Love Means…) series. Even though I had a basic idea of what was going to happen having previously read the first two books in the series, that didn’t stop me from hanging onto every page. The story of Cliff and Len is heartwarming and I think even more so having read about Geoff’s life before going back to hear about the love story that started it all.

I’d heard many great things about this series and had been meaning to start it for a while. I believe I even read a short that comes after the first book a while back. And really, I have to say this book does not disappoint. Andrew Grey once again delivers a touching story that engages the reader in the characters and the world in which they live. I found myself with Geoff and Eli every step of the way and I’m very excited to continue with this series to see where things end up.
